Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey

Ringling is Back in Tampa: Everything You Need to Know Before You Go

If you grew up in Tampa, you probably remember the circus as a rite of passage. This weekend, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey is taking over the Benchmark International Arena (yeah, the one we still call Amalie) for a huge homecoming.

But don’t expect the same show you saw ten years ago. They’ve completely ditched the animal acts and replaced them with high-octane, “how-are-they-doing-that” human talent. Think of it more like a massive, music-driven party where the performers are basically real-life superheroes.

🎪 What’s Actually New?

I did some digging, and there are a few acts you definitely don’t want to miss:

  • The Triangular High Wire: Usually, it’s just one wire. This time, the Lopez Family performs 25 feet up on three wires connected in a triangle. They even ride bikes up there.
  • The Human Rocket: Skyler Miser (who is basically circus royalty) gets launched out of a massive rocket at 65 mph.
  • Bailey the Robo-Pup: Since there are no real animals, they’ve introduced a robotic dog named Bailey. It’s a bit of a “love it or hate it” addition, but the kids usually think it’s pretty cool.
  • Criss-Cross Trapeze: Nine aerialists flying in every direction at once—it’s chaotic in the best way possible.

The Full Schedule

The circus is only here from Friday through Sunday (Jan 2–4). Here is the breakdown:

DateShowtimes
Friday, Jan 27:00 PM
Saturday, Jan 311:00 AM, 3:00 PM, 7:00 PM
Sunday, Jan 411:00 AM, 3:00 PM

🚗 Parking & Logistics (The Stress-Saver)

Tampa traffic is no joke, especially on a Friday night or a busy Saturday downtown.

  • The Best Lots: Your easiest bets are the Pam Iorio Garage (right next to the arena) or the Port Garage.
  • If you want to save a few bucks, park at the Fort Brooke Garage and hop on the TECO Streetcar. It’s free, and the kids usually love the trolley ride almost as much as the show.
  • Prices: Expect to pay anywhere from $25 to $35 for event parking near the arena.

🎟️ Quick Checklist

  • Tickets: Kids 2 and up need their own seat.
  • Bag Policy: The arena is strict. Usually, only small clutches (about 5″x8″) are allowed. If you have a diaper bag, you’ll likely have to go through a dedicated screening lane, so build in an extra 15 minutes.
  • Arrival: Aim to get there 60 minutes early. The “Hype Crew” starts the party before the official show begins, and it’s a great time to grab your popcorn without the massive lines.

How to Get Tickets

Tickets are moving fast, but you can still snag them online. Prices usually start around $31, but they go up as the arena fills.

DIY PATIO FURNITURE

I was determined to buy a whole collection set from World Market, but I knew that I couldn’t bring myself to paying that price. After extensive research, I came across AngeleMarieMade. She encouraged me to build the entire set! I will link her tutorial down below.

After figuring our what tutorial I was going to use, I headed to our local Homedpot and Lowes and got all the lumber and materials. I spent about $120 on all the lumber and materials needed. The chairs and couch were super easy to build, but I did need the help of my husband using the Brad Nailer. I’m so glad he taught me! I am now ready to take on some more difficult projects.  Continue reading “DIY PATIO FURNITURE”

Fathers Day, Baseball and a Dad’s Legacy

Physically and mentally speaking, my Dad is one of the strongest people I know. I watched this man go to work with the flu, fevers, physical pain and food poison. I watched him get up at 5am and work in the blistering heat and cold, getting home at 6-7pm. During baseball season, it was just in time to watch a game.

With his immediate Family, he didn’t know the word, no. Growing up, not once did my Father ever raise his voice. He was always so calm and collected in any situation. My Brothers and I could be destroying the house, going nuts and while we drove my Mom crazy at times, he was unbothered. My Dad was a huge Baseball fan. The only time I ever saw him anxious was watching Baseball or Boxing. I can recall so many memories of watching Ball games with him and also big fights. One of my earliest Baseball memories was him sneaking me out of bed to finish watching game 5 of the 1995 Mariners-Yankees series (for my baseball fans, yes, it was that game!) My Brothers are younger and weren’t big into sports, so that was our bonding time. I’ll never forget his uncontrollable body twitches in close situations.

We grew up in a working class family, so trips to the stadiums were far and few in between. Growing up next to Yankee Stadium, naturally, I was a Yankees Fan. My Dad, get this, was a Red Sox fan. We managed to coexist, but his fandom took a back seat for his overall love of the game. He didn’t care who was playing, he just wanted to watch ball games. As an adult, one of my greatest joys and most vivid memories was taking him to a game (on my dime for a change). I’ll never forget, it was a day game on Memorial Day, 2014. The Yankees were on the road so I took him to Citi Field, the Mets were playing the Pirates. It was me, him and Noah, even though it was my treat to go to the game, I couldn’t stop him from getting Noah Ice Cream and cotton candy. Noah was about 2 years old and he took his afternoon nap around the 7th inning, he woke up in time to watch the Mets blow the lead, as usual, the Pirates won that game 5-3!

In November 2021, I told him I’d get him tickets to see his favorite Dominican Winter League Team, Las Águilas Cibaeñas. The Season came and went, unfortunately, I didn’t get to send him. On February 3rd, 2022, during the finale of the Caribbean World Series, we talked and I promised I would take him to a game in the upcoming season. Furthermore, when it resumes in 2023, I promised that I’d take him to a World Baseball Classic Game. Unfortunately, just a week later, he suffered a Bi-lateral Stroke.  Like the warrior that he was, he fought and fought for 3 months.  I had hope that I would be able to fulfill my promise. Then, Life, being the greatest Teacher of all, taught me a harsh lesson, stop putting things off for tomorrow.  The trauma got the best of him and he passed on May 16, 2022. As Father’s Day approaches, I wanted to pay homage to him the best way I know how, by writing. Writing about him, growing up with him, our relationship through Baseball and his legacy.

I guess you can say my Dad was forced to retire early  in 2020 and he went back to his home Country, the Dominican Republic. In March, the Pandemic took us all by storm. Baseball comes back to the center of our relationship. For 2 seasons, I’d share my MLB.TV subscription with him so he can keep up with games. In February of 21, I recall face timing him during the Caribbean World Series. For some reason, he couldn’t get the game, so I literally flipped the camera, placed it on my night stand and we watched the game that way together through FaceTime. When he suffered his stroke, I came to DR and when I turned on his TV, the 2nd app that popped up behind Netflix, was MLB.Tv. I felt some type of harmony when I saw that. However, Life can be unfairly cruel. Obviously, the Pandemic hindered traveling for many of us and during this time his Grandchildren total grew by 3 more.  While I’ve made peace with his passing, a sense of guilt and regret lingers over me, since he didn’t get to meet Ayla (our youngest) and two more of his Grand babies, born in 2020. I reflect upon that lesson and the theme of, don’t wait for tomorrow, resonates.

He was the most nurturing Father, but he unlocked a new level as a Grandfather. He can be counted on for unconditional love, patience and fun. He always let himself get finessed for Happy Meals and Junk food. Who needs a quarter when you can go on unlimited lap rides and piggy back rides with Lelo/ Papa Welo. Brittney and I are working Parents. We’ve always had an amazing family support system and didn’t send our children to daycare. Noah, our oldest, spent a great deal of time with his Lelo while we worked. Sometimes he’d pull double duties with Noah and one of his other Grandkids, Aiden. I still don’t know how he managed with two raging toddlers. This is why it bothers me so much that he didn’t get to meet his 3 youngest Grand Kids.

Overall, saying my Father was beloved is an understatement. For everyone that met him, the unanimous description of him was that he was selfless and loving. He was the most kind hearted, gentle and loving person. Where he ate, we all ate. Where he drank, we all drank. Where he laughed, we all laughed. We hear this a lot about folks when they pass, but I promise you, this is one of those times that it is utterly true, he gave you the shirt off his back without questions asked. He came from this poor little town in the Dominican Republic, called Villa Bao, near Santiago, but his legacy in his town is Rich. In fact, his legacy wherever he went is Rich. He didn’t speak much English, but that didn’t stop him from communicating with you, socializing with you and sharing whatever he had with you. If you were in his presence, he wanted to ensure you were happy, fed and in good spirits. If you ran into him while he and my Mom were out, his famous saying was, “ No te valla, un traguito más” ( Don’t go yet, stay for one more drink). If he and my Mom were sitting at a local restaurant and you walked in, you better believe he’d tell you, “siéntate y coma un poco” ( sit down, join me and eat a bit). Gestures that made him a neighborhood gem

As Father’s Day approaches, if you still have your Father or Father figure, fulfill your promises to him. Call him just to tell him you love him because you don’t know it will be the last time you get too. Don’t wait for tomorrow because tomorrow may never come.

A Day with the Tampa Tarpons

https://www.milb.com/tampa

For us, baseball is literally life. Baseball is embedded in our culture’s DNA, we’ve included the game in our Holidays and traditions.  For those that observe, we all have our own sub traditions of how we celebrate Easter. New clothes, new shoes, Church in the morning, luncheon after, catch a movie, maybe a Family dinner. For us, it’s going to a Baseball game.

This past Easter, we had the most amazing time at George Steinbrenner Field, in Tampa. The Yankees affiliate, the Tampa Tarpons, pride themselves in providing a quality Family experience ( might I add, very affordable too) and they lived up to that claim.

For this game, we arrived as early as we could. As soon as we entered the stadium, the first thing our kids noticed was the bounce house! On this day, the Tarpons had 3 different bounce houses for the kids to enjoy. If we let them, they would’ve spent the better part of the game here. After the bounce houses, we had to make a stop at the Team store. The Team store is two floors, with so much to choose from. We grabbed something for each of our kids. Emma chose a plushy, Noah chose an inflatable bat and ball and we grabbed Ayla a Yankees Jersey. In case you’re wondering, we got her an Aaron Judge one.

Afterwards, we made our way to the field for the Easter Egg hunt. Although it was more like an Easter Egg mad dash, it was great to see all the kids have a blast. I’ve got to give the George Steinbrenner Field Staff and Tarpons staff credit, this was one of the best controlled chaos events I’ve ever attended. They separated the children into two age groups and had enough Easter Eggs on the field to make everyone happy. The kids were satisfied and walked away with plenty of Easter Eggs and candy. As we made our way off the field, we got a little cherry on top. We ran into Tarpons Pitcher, Jack Neely and Catcher, Antonio Gomez. Both of them were super kind, they even took pictures with Emma.

One of the biggest gripes we all have with going to Ball games is the price of concessions, but the Tarpons had that covered. The Tarpons have an extremely affordable meal deal option that includes a game day ticket (great seats), French fries, a drink and your choice of a Hot Dog or chicken tenders for under $20. We went on a Saturday and we got to take advantage of the Dugout Club, All you can eat (and drink) Tickets. Let me tell you, it was worth every penny!

The Tarpons are a Yankee affiliate, so of course the lounge was beautiful, it was spacious and had a nice elegant feel to it. Inside, I loved how they brought Yankees history to life through their photos. The Kids were in snack/ junk food Heaven. They got to enjoy a Hot Dog station, dessert table, pop corn machine, pizza, sliders, cracker jacks, you name it! Myself and Britt got to enjoy the adult beverages, unlimited beer and wine, (Homer Simpson voice) woohoo! If you’re ever in the area on a Saturday, this is a must do.

The game was super exciting and tight. As a die hard Yankees Fan, it was great to see super prospect, Jasson Dominguez.  In my opinion, he has the best nickname in Baseball, The Martian. We expected a post game fireworks show, but the show started a little early. We got to experience one of the most exciting finishes in sports, when the Tarpons won in walk off fashion. What was even cooler about this, Jack Nealy came in to toss 2 innings, striking out 6 and positioning his team to get the win in walkoff fashion. As soon as the game ended, the fireworks began and lit up the night sky to send the fans home extra happy.

One of our Family phrases is, “we like sports” and we’ve gone to a ton of sporting events, but as a Family, this was one of our favorites! If you’re around, be sure to check out a Tarpons game, I promise you won’t be disappointed. In fact, if you happen to be around any minor league baseball affiliate, be sure to check out a game.

Weekend Getaway to Orlando World Center Marriott

Orlando is known for Disney World, Universal Studios and the Orlando Magic. As huge sports fans and pass holders to the main parks, we spend a bunch of time here. With our most recent visit, we stayed at the Orlando World Center Marriott and we found a home away from home. We checked into one of their beautifully renovated rooms and the view from our balcony was amazing! We had so much fun during our stay at the Orlando World Center Marriott, that it made us forget we were in the Theme Park capital of the world, this property literally had it all!

We spent our day at their newest attraction, River Falls Water Park. This area is home to 3 awesome water slides, the Boomerang, Aquasphere and Tailspin. Of course we tried them all more than once and while all the slides are amazing, our personal favorite was the Tailspin. The Tailspins was the longest slide of them all, but it wasn’t overwhelming, it made it the perfect slide to enjoy. Next, I grabbed Noah and we made our way to the Boomerang, spoiler alert, we didn’t brace ourselves for the 20 foot drop and before we knew it, we were sliding upward another 20 feet in the air and ended with a gentle water slide version of bumper cars, before we got dumped in the pool. After the slides, me and the entire family grabbed floating tubes and we all enjoyed a few relaxing laps around the lazy pool. Brittney and I alternated turns plopping Ayla on our laps while we enjoyed the cruise, I couldn’t tell you how many times we went around. Afterwards, Brittney, myself, Noah, Emma and Ayla, all enjoyed some fun in the sun and water, in the Aqua Park. Here we got to enjoy a heated pool making the water comfy and just right, Ayla enjoyed shallow water she can sit in and a sprinkler to cool off in.

If that isn’t enough, Orlando World Center Marriott also has the Falls Pool Oasis, this is where I had my fun! Here I had the Falls Pool bar and Grill, 2 big screens TVs and a huge pool surrounded by plenty of lounge chairs, cabanas and daybeds. The adrenaline junky in me climbed up the slide tower and took a few dives down each of the 3 waterslides. When I was done being a big kid, I headed over to the Kid’s Splash Zone to join my Wife and Kids and it didn’t disappoint either. They had their own kiddie pool to slide down, lounge chairs, private cabana’s and a heated kiddy pool too. As the Sun went down, we got to enjoy a couple of Mom and Dad drinks while enjoying a cool laser show by the poolside.

The Hotel had several different restaurants, a little something for all taste buds. In the mornings, we’d get our days started at Latitude & Longitude, the breakfast was fresh, tasty and filling. Brittneys favorite was the Japanese Steakhouse, Mikado. Britt loves the flashy stuff, but this time, the flash matched the taste. The Kids and I are simpler folks and we absolutely loved High Velocity. I got the best of both worlds here, sports and food. After dinner every night we’d spend some time at the arcade room, Noah and Emma each earned 500 tickets and on check out day, they were excited to redeem their prizes, of course we made them get Ayla a little prize too.

Orlando World Center Marriott outdid itself when it comes to self care. Being a Mom is one of the toughest jobs in the world and Britt was able to destress for a bit at the Spa. Every Morning I snuck off to get my day started off right in the fitness center. I was unable to tee off on this trip, but Hawk Landing Golf Club was beautiful! Speaking of self care and health, the HyCube was a beautiful site. The hydroponic system is used to grow and hold over 15, 00 plants, the produce is used at all of the Hotels Restaurants and when you eat at Latitude & Longitude, you’ll get a view of the HyCube.

No trip to Orlando for us is complete without a visit to Disney World. Unlike other Hotels and Resorts, Orlando World Center Marriott provides daily trips to the Disney Parks on a Charter bus for its guests. The Charter is equipped with comfy seats, Disney themed movies and plenty of pick up and drop off times to create convenient trips to the Parks during your stay. Next time you’re in town and want the best Orlando has to offer, be sure to book your next stay at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

NFT’s, What is that?

If you’ve been following our content on IG recently, you know about our new obsession, non-fungible tokens or as many have come to know them, NFT’s. Since we began to share our digital journey in the NFT world, I’ve gotten countless requests from family, friends and followers to explain what it is and how can I get an NFT? Before I dive into it, I’ve gotta admit, I’m no NFT expert and I’m no Crypto expert, I’m just a Dad with Thumbs, a Smart phone and a passion for learning.

An NFT is a Non-Fungible Token, if you’re anything like me, you’ve already said, what the heck is that? Well, it’s a digital token, which is pretty much a certificate of authenticity, much like a deed or proof, confirming you own the right to display the above art on your wall or in your digital wallet. All in all, this means they’re collectable digital assets that hold value, just like how physical art holds value, so do NFTs. The cool thing is, any kind of reproduced digital file can be stored as an NFT to identify the original copy, like photography, art, music, videos.

Now the good stuff! You’re all here to understand, why are these things so valuable? How does this translate to money? I recently bought an NFT comic of, The Amazing Spider-Man #14, for $6.99. I was lucky enough to score one of the Secret Rare versions which increased its value. Before I get into how much I was able to make in resale, I’ll explain what drove the demand. Firstly, everyone loves our friendly neighborhood spiderman. It was the first appearance of his arch nemesis, Green Goblin, then the pop culture impact, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know the new Spideman movie is premiering soon and the Green Goblin is set to make his MCU debut. You combine all of these factors and it drives the value. I was able to turn a $6.99 NFT comic into $800+. Not exactly life changing money on my first flip, however, NFT’s do have that kind of firepower and star power.

On Opensea, one of the most valuable NFT collections in the world is the Bored Ape Yacht Club. The most affordable one is worth $200,000. Another valuable NFT collection is the Crypto Punks, we’ve seen some of these NFT be sold for an excess of $5 million dollars (yes, you read that correctly!) Veve has also been making a name for itself in the NFT world too. Veve holds the license to some of the most popular franchises/ characters in the world. The most expensive collectible on their marketplace is the Ultra Rare Donny, from the Powerpuff Girls. There were only 150 of them minted (created) and the drop price (face value) was just $16.99. The current price is just north of $83 thousand (that’s an ROI of x4,905).

With the ever growing digital world, as the Internet of things (IOT) evolves, NFT’s value will only continue to explode. The craziest part, this space is only in its very early infancy stage and it’s already a billion dollar industry. With growing AR technology and the introduction of the Metaverse, it will only fuel the technology and platforms that will increase the value and popularity of NFT’s. Have you bought your first NFT yet? If so, let us know in the comments what was your first purchase?
